What is Montessori?
Montessori education is based upon principles developed by Dr. Maria Montessori.  The Montessori philosophy embraces the whole child and his/her natural curiosity and love of learning.  Children will reach their full potential both academically and socially when given the freedom to actively work with concrete, sequential materials within a carefully prepared environment and open-ended curriculum.  Teachers provide enough guidance to help children work toward independence and self-discipline.  A multi-age classroom provides maximum opportunities for developing social and academic skills and modeling respectful behavior.

Who Can Attend?
All students who are zoned for Anderson School District Two are eligible to attend.  Students that do not reside in the Marshall Primary School attendance zone are on special permission to attend Marshall throughout the entire Montessori program.  Once the student has completed the Montessori program, he/she will attend the next grade level in the school in which they are zoned to attend.  Transportation is only provided to 4K (full day only) and 5K students who are zoned for Marshall Primary School.

Once selected into the Montessori program, there is a commitment of continuous enrollment until the end of grade 2.

Age Requirements

  • 3K program (half-day)—must be three by September 1, of the school year for which you are applying.
  • 4K program (half-day or full day)—must be four by September 1, of the school year for which you are applying.
  • 5K program (full day kindergarten) —must be five by September 1, of the school year for which you are applying.

Other Requirements
To enter the Marshall Primary Montessori Program (3, 4, 5 years old), the child must be completely toilet trained.  The ability for your child to use the toilet and clean properly is an independent skill for school readiness and is essential for participation in our program.  Staff cannot change children that have soiled their clothes.  In the event of an accident, parents will be contacted by the nurse/staff to come to school to clean/change the child or pick up the child within 30 minutes.  A pattern of toileting issues will result in the child being removed from the program.

Times For The Program
The half-day program for 3 year olds is from 8:00-11:00.  Parents of students in the Montessori 4K program must choose either half-day (8:00-11:00) or full day (8:00-2:40) by August 1.  The full school day for 5K students is 8:00-2:40.

Application Process
Admission is by application only.  Parents must complete an online application in InfoSnap at www.anderson2.org and provide all required documentation.  A birth certificate, immunization records, two proofs of residence (power bill, water bill, tax bill on home, and proof of income (recent pay stub, tax returns, or Medicaid card).  Applications are accepted beginning February 1.  In the event that the number of applications exceed the number of spaces available, a lottery will be held to randomly select students

How Are Students Selected?
A public lottery will be held at Marshall Primary School on  the 4th Friday in March.  Our goal for each Montessori class is to be comprised of similar demographics as all other classes at Marshall Primary School.

When Will I Know If My Child Is Accepted?
Parents may attend the public lottery.  Parents will also be notified in writing about acceptance to the program within 5 business days of the lottery.  Students not accepted will be placed on a waiting list in the order in which they were drawn.  As slots become available, parents will be notified by telephone.  Once a student is accepted and participates in the program, he/she does not need to reapply.  Once a child is accepted into the program, it is a commitment throughout their years at Marshall Primary School.
